Fearne’s on the move at Radio 1
16/07/2009 @ 10:34 amBBC Radio 1 announced this morning that Fearne Cotton will be moving to weekdays to present the 10am - 12.45pm slot.
We caught up with Fearne exclusively to get her reaction to the news and she said:
“I’m more than excited about my new show at Radio 1! I just love working there so getting to go in every weekday to chat, play music and interview people is a dream come true!
Jo Whiley has made that slot what it is. It’s nerve wracking stepping into Jo’s shoes and being responsible for the Live Lounge! Jo is one of the main reasons I got into radio! She has been a massive inspiration to me over the years and will always be the queen of cool!
I’m now just raring to get going with it all in September!
Fearne will be taking over from Jo Whiley who has been hosting the show since 2001 as part of a major shakeup at Radio 1 which sees the new daytime schedule looking like this:
4.00am - 6.30am Dev
6.30am - 10.00am Chris Moyles
10.00am - 12.45pm Fearne Cotton
12.45pm - 1.00pm Newsbeat
1.00pm - 4.00pm Greg James
4.00pm - 7.00pm Scott Mills

7am-10am- Edith Bowman
10am-1pm- Vernon Kay/Sara Cox (Sat/Sun)
1pm-4pm- Jo Whiley
4-7pm- Reggie Yates/Chart Show
Its all very strange and gives the weekend lineup’s average age shoot up. What I want to know is where Nihal is going.
At least Bowman and Whiley have a new home. Best of luck to Cotton, its a tough job but if anyone can do it, the Cottonator can.
Literally so happy Fearne, you are the darling of radio 1 and have done such a great job each time you have filled in. I too am disappointed about the end of the amazing twosome that is Fearne and Reggie on the request show and the chart show, I best make the most of that while it lasts. The bosses have made the right decision about you and Greg, amazing… I actually shouted “Yes” in the car when I heard it on newsbeat! Well done again x

Seen’s all I do is bum around listening to radio 1 during the day this will be awesome, like you say Jo Whiley is pretty damn on it so good luck you will be great!

Fearne,
A few weeks back me and my son Jack were listening to your Saturday show in the car and you played a track which was like really cool. Jack said it was like R&B but not too sure how you classify these days.
Anyway the track was great and it contained lyrics like,
‘I love parties’ and everybody went yeah
and ‘ I love women’ and everyone went yeah
then ‘ I love College ‘ and everybody went yeah but not as loud.
My lad thought it was great. Did’nt catch the artist or song title and have’nt heard it played since.
Hope you can remember it and please put me out of my misery so I can go out and buy the tune for jack.
