Blog: A Vampire Weekend!

24/11/2009 @ 12:12 pm

I still have to pinch myself sometimes knowing that I get the keys to the Live Lounge in the week! This week was a good example of why… Pixie Lott with her belting voice and sweet Essex charm and The Blackout, old friends and funny as hell welsh wonders.

The first time I ever saw them was in a little pub in Pontypridd in Wales. There was hardly anyone there in fact it was me, 2 of the Lost Prophets, one of the mums of one of the Lost Prophets and a dog and it was just brilliant! Since then I’ve always looked out for them and to have them in the Live Lounge was ace. I’m so proud of them! They did a great cover of Pixie Lott Girls and Boys before turning it into a mash up of Rhianna’s Shut up and Drive - the result was just mad, they bought a total rawk edge to it. I know they converted a whole bunch of new fans after that cause we got loads of texts. The interview was hilarious to boot (listen to it here) if they ever fancy it there is a career in stand-up for them!

This weekend was officially entitled Vampire Weekend. I donned some black eyeliner, some black lipstick, a velvet coat and headed out to see Twilight: New Moon with about 7 friends. We were the oldest people in the cinema by about 15 years.

I have to admit to being very fickle with twilight last time I was all about Team Edward and now this time I have to say I’m all about Team Jacob - yep I’ve just jumped ship. When he takes his top off to mop Bella’s brow I actually shrieked and kicked my legs in the air, much to the embarrassment of my friends but hey my body was doing things I had no control over! I was fixated throughout and even my friend’s constant tapping and trying to talk during the film had no effect I was totally immersed.  There was one bit where Jacob and his friends come out of the forest, (obviously the shapeshift into werewolves!) and they are all semi naked and my friend uttered one of the funniest things I have heard in ages . The very simple and to the point:

“Take me to the Forest now”

All I could respond amongst the laughing was “I’m there with you sister!” If you haven’t seen it yet all I can say is the last two words … SO EXCITING. Go and see it and even if you don’t care - go and see it!

Now I’m not great at skateboarding and the thought of doing it in British winter time is enough to send me over the edge but a skateboard with no wheels inside is right up my street! NO grazes, no wind chill, no broken limbs! Made even better by the fact I had Tony Hawks the world’s greatest skateboarder to coach me on his new computer game for the Xbox! I was still pretty awful unfortunately.  I challenged him to do a lap backwards and then attempted to beat his time. I still failed! I was terrible, managing to hit a bin and a wall - if it was real I’d be in hospital right now! He was really fun and a totally amazing guy - we saw his shins which are so battered he has no feeling in them they were all bashed and pink and cut up. It made my toes curl just looking at them!

So that’s been my week really vampires, skateboarding and death metal - that’s how I like to live!

Peace

    Hey Cotton,

I saw your interview with Peaches Geldof about Scientology on YouTube. My guess is you don’t know that much about Scientology and have preconceptions about it, like I did. Basically it supports the idea that we are immortal spiritual beings that are being born over and over again. With the help of auditing earlier incidents on the time-track can be resolved that influence us up to this day.

Then there’s a lot of educational stuff also.

    Anyway,

    See ya

  5. Katherine Alice says:

There was clearly no need for Jacob to whip off his shirt to dab Bella’s forehead but I am thrilled he did as it never seemed to go back on. Which was exactly what I was hoping to gain from New Moon. I applaud the director and you Ferne for admitting the shrieking and kicking reaction which every girl knows deep down they had.

  6. Elliott says:

Fearne COtton, have you ever been to Jupiter? And what was it like?
